How to Measure for Bull Riding Chaps (Florida Riders Guide)

If you are investing in custom bull riding chaps, correct measurements are everything. A poor fit affects your balance, comfort, and overall performance in the arena. At Rowdy Rowels, based right here in Florida, we build bull riding chaps designed to move with you — not against you.

Whether you ride local jackpots across Florida or compete on larger stages, here is the exact way to measure properly.

1. Waist Measurement

Use a soft measuring tape and measure all the way around your waist just below your belt.

If you wear your chaps higher than your belt line, measure where the chaps will actually sit. Do not rely on your jean size. Jean sizes vary and are not accurate enough for custom gear.

Stand relaxed. Keep the tape snug but not tight. Record the exact number in inches.

2. Thigh Measurement

Measure around the thickest part of your upper thigh. For most riders, this is several inches below the hip.

The tape should be firm but not squeezing. A proper thigh measurement ensures your chaps fit clean without binding when you sit deep in your ride.

Too tight restricts movement. Too loose shifts during your ride.

3. Outseam Measurement

Put your cowboy boots on before measuring.

Stand straight. Measure from the top of your belt straight down to the floor along the outside of your leg.

This measurement determines how your chaps hang and ensures they hit correctly over your boots.

Why Proper Fit Matters in Florida

Florida heat, humidity, and long rodeo weekends demand gear that fits correctly. Poorly fitted chaps cause rubbing, shifting, and discomfort — especially during multiple rides.

Rowdy Rowels specializes in bull riding gear built for real riders. Our custom chaps are made for durability, movement, and the demands of rodeo life.
